Welcome

On behalf of the entire faculty, we are pleased to welcome you to this review of the highlights of the Differentiating Neurotoxins in Aesthetic Medicine: An International Consensus Conference. In the past few years, our knowledge and experience regarding the aesthetic use of botulinum toxin type A (BoNTA) have grown tremendously. Based on our understanding of functional muscular anatomy, BoNTA can be used successfully to ameliorate lines and wrinkles associated with aging, not only in the glabella and upper face but also in the mid- and lower face. In the United States, we have had one BoNTA available for many years (onabotulinumtoxinA; Botox® Cosmetic); recently another product received licensing approval from the Food and Drug Administration (DYSPORTTM;abobotulinumtoxinA). To be able to provide optimal patient outcomes, physicians must understand the similarities and differences between these products. For these reasons, we believed it was time to assemble a group of experts from around the world, with vast cumulative experience using a variety of BoNTA products, to discuss a number of important parameters regarding the aesthetic use of BoNTA and, ultimately, to gain consensus on the use of these treatments for facial aesthetics.

This interactive educational program includes several videos and slides for your review. The roundtable video summarizing meeting highlights with some of the faculty comprises the continuing medical education portion of the program.  In addition, you can view individual questions and video answers for other faculty.  A series of slides on the functional muscular anatomy of the face and BoNTA treatment considerations also is included in this program.

A complete report from these experts regarding the use of new BoNTA options for facial aesthetics will be published in the near future. In the meantime, we hope you find the information on this Web site to be of educational value to you as you continue to offer the best possible treatment options for your patients.
